Scope of Confidentiality
Student Records
All records related to your disability and accommodations are confidential. These records are kept separate from academic records and are accessible only to authorized Access staff.
Accommodations
Information about approved accommodations is shared only on a need-to-know basis with individuals responsible for implementing them, such as faculty or relevant staff. Details about your disability are not included.
Exceptions to Confidentiality
There are limited situations in which information may be shared.
- Legal requirements: Certain information may be disclosed if required by law.
- Safety concerns: If there is a significant and immediate risk to health or safety, relevant information may be shared with appropriate parties.
- Implementing accommodations and support: Access may connect with instructors or staff to help put your accommodations in place. These conversations focus on how to support your access, not on your disability.
Your Rights as a Student
As a student working with Access, you have the right to:
- Review your records: You may request to review records maintained by Access by submitting a written request.
- Consent to disclosure: You may provide written permission for Access to share information with specific individuals or offices.
- Confidential consultation: You can discuss your needs, questions and concerns with Access staff in a private setting.
By using Access, you acknowledge your understanding of this confidentiality information. Protecting your privacy allows Access to support your learning and help you stay focused on your educational and career goals at RCC.
