Getting started with Cooperative Work Experience (CWE) is easier when you know the steps ahead. Use this checklist to guide you through the process — from identifying an internship or worksite and completing required paperwork to registering for credits, tracking your hours and successfully completing your CWE experience. Following these steps will help ensure a smooth path toward earning college credit while gaining valuable real-world experience. 

  • Identify the need for CWE.
  • Contact the CWE office to get things going.
  • An instructor is assigned to oversee your CWE experience.
  • Work with RCC to find a worksite that fits your program and goals.
  • Complete the CWE Agreement Packet.
    • Finish paperwork with RCC advisor and employer to set clear learning objectives.
    • Complete the additional paperwork needed for on‑campus CWE locations. The CWE office guides you through this.
    • Complete any required background checks or onboarding steps if your site needs them.
  • Review the Workplace Ethics section of the CWE Agreement with your CWE instructor.
    • Review your assignments, expectations and how to track your work hours with your instructor.
  • Turn in your completed CWE Agreement Packet to the CWE office.
  • The CWE office registers your credits and lets you know once registration is done.
  • You begin working the number of hours you agreed to complete.
    • Submit your required assignments during the term.
    • Submit your time sheets so RCC can verify your hours.
  • Your final grade is assigned at the end of the term.
