Getting started in the Fire Science program at Rogue Community College means completing a clear set of steps designed to help you move into hands-on training with confidence. Because this is a special admission program, you must meet additional requirements and complete a separate admission process beyond general college admission. You will review required steps, meet posted deadlines and complete program-specific applications for training such as the Firefighter Essentials 1 Academy and Emergency Medical Technician courses. Planning early can help you stay on track and feel prepared as you take your next step toward a career in the fire service.
How to Get Started
Step 1: Apply for Admission to Rogue Community College
Applying to RCC is free and only takes a few minutes online. This step officially
gets you started as a student.
Step 2: Complete the RCC Placement Process
Placement helps determine which math, reading and writing classes best match your
current skill level, setting you up for success in the program.
Step 3: Meet With an Academic Advisor
Your coach will help you review the Program Map, understand required courses and plan
a clear path toward your Fire Science goals.
Step 4: Explore Student Firefighter Opportunities
If you are interested in becoming a student firefighter, learning about local fire
agency programs can help you understand expectations and timeline options.
Step 5: Apply to Required Training Programs
You may begin with either Emergency Medical Technician training or the Firefighter
Essentials 1 Academy, based on availability and readiness. Submit your applications
based on your planned start sequence and posted deadlines.
- Firefighter Essentials 1 Academy is offered in the fall term. The application deadline is May 1.
- Emergency Medical Technician training is offered fall and winter or winter and spring. The 2026 EMT application opens in April.
