You complete 90-91 credits in this two-year program and you’ll graduate with the skills to do serious diesel repair and get solid employment.
Year One
In your first fall term, you check in with your advisor and take classes in diesel electricity, diesel practices, engine diagnosis and welding for a total of 13 credits. Winter is another 13‑credit term with courses in power trains, brake systems and preventative maintenance. In spring, you take 15 credits, including advanced diesel electricity, suspension and steering, fuel systems and a second welding class. During the summer, you check in with your advisor again and take air‑conditioning for diesel technicians along with a class in human relations or psychology for a total of 8 credits.
Year Two
In your second fall term, you take 14 credits in engine overhaul, computerized vehicle systems and math for technical careers. Winter is a 13‑credit term with aftertreatment systems, hydraulics, welding or another elective and a writing course with support if needed. In your final spring term, you complete 13 credits that include cooperative work experience, a repair lab or another approved elective, first aid and a workforce preparation class.
Graduation Requirements
The Diesel Technology AAS degree requires the completion of 90-91 program credits as well as 4 prerequisite credits, which may be waived based on placement. Students must complete all courses outlined in this program with a grade of “C” or better to earn a degree. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor or faculty advisor before beginning any coursework.
To finish the program, you complete 12-13 elective credits. You can choose from welding, manufacturing, math, Spanish, supervision, conflict management, physics, automotive repair or other approved topics. This lets you shape the program to match your goals.
