Constitution Day
Each year, institutions of higher education that receive federal funding are required to provide an educational program about the United States Constitution on September 17, known as Constitution Day. If September 17 falls on a weekend or holiday, the program is held immediately before or after that date.
Constitution Day commemorates the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787, at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. The Constitution established the framework of the federal government and defines the rights and freedoms that guide civic life in the United States today.
Understanding the Constitution helps strengthen civic knowledge and encourages informed participation in our democracy.
